متن کاملGround state cooling of a nanomechanical resonator via a Cooper pair box qubit
In this paper we present a scheme for ground state cooling of a flexural mode of a nanomechanical beam incorporated in a loop-shaped Cooper-pair box (CPB) circuit. Via the Lorentz force coupling of the beam motion to circulating CPB-circuit currents, energy is transferred to the CPB qubit which acts as a dissipative two-level system. The cooling process is driven by a detuned gate-voltage drive...

– This paper is devoted to an analysis of the experiment by Nakamura et al. (Nature 398, 786 (1999)) on the quantum state control in Josephson junctions devices. By considering the relevant processes involved in the detection of the charge state of the box and a realistic description of the gate pulse we are able to analyze some aspects of the experiment (like the amplitude of the measurement c...
متن کاملBand Engineering in Cooper-Pair Box: Dispersive Measurements of Charge and Phase
Low-frequency susceptibility of the split Cooper-pair box (SCPB) is investigated for use in sensitive measurements of external phase or charge. Depending on the coupling scheme, the box appears as either inductive or capacitive reactance which depends on external phase and charge. While coupling to the source-drain phase, we review how the SCPB looks like a tunable inductance, which property we...
متن کاملMechanical Lamb-shift analogue for the Cooper-pair box
We estimate the correction to the Cooper-pair box energy level splitting due to the quantum motion of a coupled micromechanical gate electrode. While the correction due to zero-point motion is very small, it should be possible to observe thermal motion-induced corrections to the photon-assisted tunneling current.
